Hey, I Get it!

Let me tell you a story. As a mother of young children (3 in 3 years). I discovered a new level of busy in my life. I found that I would read it for a few days and then my Bible would “sit on my shelf” for a few days.

I was embarrassed by this if I'm being honest. I noticed that in this season of my life, I lacked clarity on what God wanted to do in and through my life. I felt torn in many directions. I lacked the emotional peace and joy I knew God wanted for me.

It seemed like overnight my prayer life went from Praying without Ceasing to meal time only (gotta set the example for the kids, right?). I woke up every day simply “trying harder” to be a good Christian, mom and wife, who read my Bible but struggled with consistency.

I tried listening to the Bible on YouTube, keeping an app on my phone and it was often a faithful day if I got the children's family devotional done. But I still felt guilty. I didn't have the luxury of lounging on the couch with cute highlighters and my Bible in a Pinterest view of what Bible reading looks like.

Then I Realized...

I was called to faithful obedience not perfection. I wasn't being called to "Study" the Bible with commentaries like I did while obtaining my college theology degree. I was called to faithfully consume the inspired Word of God. 

I also realized the plans I kept trying to read were at too slow of a pace (because we need someone to tell us what to read, right? Not.) 

It was like I was on a Bible reading diet and when I didn't read it I was STARVING.

Instead of fun-sized pieces of candy I feasted and immersed myself in God's Word. If I missed a day I released the guilt and got back to it.

I slowly got better about planning for the interruptions of playdates, family adventures, and the days filled with toddler tantrums.  

Excitement and hunger for God's Word returned. My Bible, wrinkled by toddlers, is now reflective of a life lived abundantly, with joy, intention, and purpose.
